Open Question: Do I need a health permit to work at a family owned pet store if I'm 14?

I live In Hampton Virginia, and I know the owner of a family owned pet store, and i want to work there when i turn 24 in a couple of months in September. But I know that in some food stores you have to have a health permit, I just wanted to know If Virginia law saws that I have t have something to be able to work with animals., because that's probably what I'm going to be doing, I have a good amount of experience with exotic pets, I own birds, and parrots and I know how to take care of them....
